Friday 8/21/2026 at Anime NYC was one of those day Friday 8/21/2026 at Anime NYC was one of those days where you could barely make it across the Javits Center without stopping for another photograph.Every few feet there was a completely different character, a different pose, a different kind of energy. Some people came ready with huge props and full builds, others just had the attitude down perfectly. And that’s really what made covering Anime NYC so much fun — not just cosplay, but how much personality people brought with them.A few more favorites from Anime NYC Day Two. 📸Photo 1: @elkcosplay

Friday 8/21/26 at Anime NYC could change completel Friday 8/21/26 at Anime NYC could change completely from one photograph to the next. One minute it was bright, colorful and playful. A few steps later, somebody would show up with a darker look, a completely different attitude, and be fully locked into character. That’s one of the things I love about photographing conventions. There really isn’t one way to photograph cosplay. Sometimes it’s the costume, sometimes it’s the pose or expression, and sometimes all I have to do is find the angle and let the cosplayer take over.A few more of my favorite frames from Anime NYC Day Two. 📸Photo 1: @e.xegol

Friday 8/21/2026 was the first full day of Anime N Friday 8/21/2026 was the first full day of Anime NYC 2026, and the Javits Center was already in full swing. For me, the day was pretty much this: walk ten feet, see another great cosplay, stop, make a photograph, repeat. The variety was incredible — anime, games, armor, props, groups, action poses, and completely different styles everywhere you looked. But what really made the day was the people: old friends running into each other, new friendships starting on the convention floor, and cosplayers just having a great time bringing these characters to life.A few of my favorite frames from Friday. 📸Photo 1: @nanaakaonasis

250 years after the Battle of Brooklyn, history re 250 years after the Battle of Brooklyn, history returned to the landscape where part of it unfolded.Green-Wood Cemetery marked the anniversary with The Battle of Brooklyn 250: The Meaning of Freedom on Sunday, August 23, bringing together living-history interpreters, historical activities, music, a flag procession to Battle Hill and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Altar to Liberty.Brooklyn Borough Historian Asad Dandia delivered the keynote during the Battle Hill ceremony. Meera Joshi, president of The Green-Wood Cemetery, hosted the program, with Brad Lander, New York State Assemblymember Robert C. Carroll, and New York City Councilmember Alexa Avilés among those participating in the ceremony. The Battle of Brooklyn was fought primarily on August 27, 1776, just weeks after the Declaration of Independence. The battle ended in an American defeat, but George Washington's successful nighttime evacuation across the East River preserved the Continental Army and allowed the fight for independence to continue. The commemoration connected that history with questions about the meaning of freedom 250 years later, on ground where portions of the battle were actually fought.📍 Green-Wood Cemetery — Brooklyn, New York

Union Square Protest Demands ICE Accountability After Minneapolis Tragedy

Richard Scalzo8 months ago5 months ago011 mins
Handmade protest signs reading “Abolish ICE,” “Stop Fascism,” and “No King or ICE” held by demonstrators at a rally in New York City.

On January 24, 2026, roughly 500 demonstrators gathered at Union Square in New York City. The march was sparked by the fatal shooting of Alex Jeffrey Petty in Minneapolis, which protestors cited as the tipping point. Determined yet mournful, the crowd held signs like “Killed by ICE” and “Stop the War on Immigrants.” Despite the cold, marchers moved from 14th Street to Madison Square Park, chanting continuously. One protester carried an inverted American flag. The message was clear: many felt ICE had gone too far and urgent change was demanded.
