On August 18th, 2024, Flame Con returned to NYC, bringing together a vibrant community of LGBTQ+ fans, creators, and allies for a weekend of celebration and inclusion. Held at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel, this year’s event highlighted the intersection of queer identity and geek culture with a rich lineup of panels, cosplay contests, and artist showcases.
Attendees were treated to discussions on queer representation in media, workshops on comic creation, and performances from LGBTQ+ artists. The artist alley buzzed with unique works from diverse creators, while the cosplay floor was alive with stunning and creative interpretations of beloved characters, often reimagined through a queer lens.
Flame Con also featured a dedicated area for LGBTQ+ nonprofits and advocacy groups, offering resources and support to attendees. The event continued its tradition of fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all, ensuring that every participant, regardless of their identity, felt seen and celebrated.
The atmosphere was electric, with a sense of community and pride palpable throughout the convention space. Flame Con 2024 not only celebrated queer fandom but also reinforced the importance of visibility and representation in popular culture
