Free Comic Book Day Draws Crowds to NYC Icon St. Mark’s Comics in Industry City

Brooklyn, NY — On Saturday, May 3, 2025, comic fans of all ages flocked to St. Mark’s Comics in Industry City, Brooklyn, for the annual Free Comic Book Day—a nationwide celebration of comic book culture, creativity, and community. From the moment the doors opened, the beloved shop was buzzing with excitement, laughter, and the unmistakable joy of flipping through fresh pages of stories, superheroes, and Saturday morning nostalgia.

St. Mark’s Comics, a New York City institution since the 1980s, continues to prove why it’s one of the most cherished comic shops in the country. Now based in Industry City after its original East Village location closed in 2019, the store has reestablished itself as a hub for collectors, casual readers, families, and cosplay enthusiasts alike. The space was decked out with vibrant signage promoting “Free Comic Book Day – May 3, 2025”, and bins brimmed with colorful, limited-edition comics from Archie, ThunderCats, Powerpuff Girls, Snoopy, and dozens more.

Fans were treated to free issues, exclusive merchandise, and discounts on back issues throughout the day. Friendly staff members, many of whom are lifelong comic fans themselves, eagerly offered recommendations, and helped younger readers find their first superhero or magical girl. “They really know their stuff, and they make you feel welcome,”

“St. Mark’s Comics isn’t just a store—it’s a piece of New York,”
